Advanced wearers can even perform tricks on curbs or rails. Heads will turn as you glide past in the streets and shops. Parents imagine how much fun your kids will have in the mall while you shop or walk around the zoo. You will never hear that they are tired of walking. Heelys are easy to learn and within hours your child or you can be heeling too! Most of Heelys models come complete with a wheel removal tool and wheel plug for occasions when they need to be worn as a regular trainer.
What's the difference between one and two wheel heelys?
Heelys offers 2 styles depending on your preferences and experience. The 2 wheel model is ideal for beginners needing extra support. The one wheel model is perfect for
advanced wearers and can be used to do tricks. One wheel means wearers can go quicker and make tighter turns.
How did Heelys get their start?
Roger Adams invented the shoes with the wheel in the heal in 1998 while vacationing in Huntington Beach California. He was watching children skate up the boardwalk and imaging a happier time in his life during his childhood. The idea came to him and he developed a prototype and took it to a trade show. The Heelys shoe company began in 2000 and its products became an immediate success. Heely shoes came to the UK in September 2004, and has had an explosive impact on kids footwear. Adults have taken to wearing Heelys too, and what started as a trend now seems to be set to stay due to popularity and demand world wide. There is also interest in Heelys becoming the next extreme sport.
Are Heelys safe?
Superstar shoes advices that when beginning wear the 2 wheel model. Keeping your feet together can result in a slip so stagger your feet with your strongest foot in front. When walking do not lean back on your heals, but make sure you step with your weight on the front of your foot. Also, always wear your safety equipment, never heel faster than you can run, and avoid heeling on rough ground. If you need to regain your balance simply step out of healing and lean forward. We stock a large range of safety equipment, such as helmets and elbow/knee pads, to make your Heelys experience as fun and safe as possible. View our safety equipment or speak with one of our staff members to discuss recommended equipment and heeling techniques.
How do Heelys sizes fit??
Junior shoes are 12-4 UK sizes, and adults 5-11. Heelys fit small so it is recommended that you buy a size larger then what you usually wear. Heelys are not manufactured in sizes larger then a men's 12 and do not come in 1/2 sizes..
How do I maintain my Heelys and how do I get missing parts?
To protect your Heelys when not using your wheels insert the Sole Saver Heal plugs. This will protect the heel cavity and wheel brackets from debris and allow you to wear your Heelys as a normal pair of trainers. Heelys can be washed with soap and warm water, but do not put them through the washing machine. If your wheels become squeaky simply apply WD40 to the wheels or use a bearing lubrication. To prevent the bearings from rusting, do not use water to clean or lubricate the bearings or wheels. If a wheel or plug is misplaced simply call Superstar Shoes. We sell replacement wheels, plugs, and tools. To purchase additional parts look for the style name and number and size of the shoe located on the inside of the shoe's tongue. Also be sure to purchase the Heelys wheel bag to keep your wheels and parts clean and organized.
How do Heely’s work?
Heelys are custom trainers with a wheel bracket in the heel that holds onto a high density polyurethane wheel that is 3 to 5 mm from the high abrasion resistant rubber outsole of the shoe. The wheel is designed for durability and good hold, and the outsole is designed to wear almost 10 times as longer then everyday trainers. The wheel bearings are scaled on an ABEC, (Annular Bearing Engineering Counsel,) rating which determines the speed of the bearing. That is the higher the rating of the bearing the more precise the turning, and smoother the ride. In Heelys the ABEC rating is either 1,3,5, or 7. You can verify what ABEC rating your pair of Heelys are by the color of the axle or on the tag of the shoe.
How do I put the wheels in and take them out?
Taking the wheels in and out is simple!
1. Removing the plug:
Most Heely’s models come equipped with a tool to remove the plugs from the bottom of the heel. Just insert the tool into the slot between the heel of the shoe and the plug.
Then with a lever action remove the plug from the shoe. Be mindful not to remove the wheels with this same action as it can damage the wheels.
2. Inserting the wheels:
To replace the wheels make sure to align the wheels with the axles. Use your palm to push the wheels down into the wheel cavity until you hear it click into place. Look at the wheel to ensure it is straight and after you put the shoes on stomp on each shoe just to make sure they are secure.
3. Removing the wheels:
The wheels can be removed with your hands. Just simply have the bottom of the shoe facing you, and with both thumbs on one side of the wheel use a upward and out motion to remove one wheel at a time starting with the one closest to you. The first couple times you remove a wheel will be the most difficult due to the bearings being pressure fitted.
